Nama fandom Ni Ni adalah 哈妮 (dibaca: hā nī). Nama fandom ini tidak ada arti sebenarnya tapi kedengarannya seperti Honey, dengan plesetan namanya, “Ni”.
Ni Ni lahir di Nanjing, Jiangsu, Tiongkok.
Dia lulus dari Universitas Komunikasi Tiongkok, yang mengkhususkan diri dalam penyiaran dan pembawa acara televisi.
Dia dianggap sebagai salah satu dari “Aktris Empat Dan Baru” oleh Southern Metropolis Daily.
Ni Ni memulai debutnya di The Flowers of War karya Zhang Yimou, memainkan karakter utama wanita “Yu Mo”. Zhang Yimou dan timnya mulai mencari pemeran pada tahun 2007. Karena The Flowers of War berlatar di Nanjing 1937, Zhang Yimou berharap menemukan aktris asli untuk membintangi filmnya.
Ni Ni akhirnya terpilih dan menjadi “gadis Mou” baru seperti Gong Li dan Zhang Zi Yi. Dia menerima pujian untuk penampilannya dalam film dan menjadi terkenal. Produser Zhang Wei Ping memujinya: “Lahir pada tahun 1988, dia masih muda, namun pemahamannya tentang sosok itu benar-benar akurat.”
